What is it?
It is the condition where the optic nerve is damaged due to abnormally high pressure in the eye. It is a progressive disorder with little to no signs and is one of the most common reasons of blindness in old age. Vision loss due to glaucoma is irreversible; hence regular checkups and treatment are highly advised as an individual’s age progresses. There are two types of glaucoma based on its manifestation. They are – open angled glaucoma where the symptoms are limited to the eyes and open angle glaucoma where the eyes, nose, head and nearby structures are also affected.
